Downtown Walking Tours

Get to know downtown Jackson and its hidden history on a historic walking tour.

public walking tours

On a hour-long walk, explore downtown Jackson landmarks and historic buildings with a local guide, who will share memorable stories of local events and characters.

We take up to 12 people on each scheduled tour. Tours depart from the History Museum at 175 East Broadway Ave. from May to September on Wednesday – Friday at 10:30am.

Current Exhibits

main gallery

Explore 11,000+ years of human history in Jackson Hole in the Main Gallery through text, artifacts, video, pull-out drawers for touchable items, and interactive kiosks. Interpretation includes writing from 21 community historians, organizations, and authors.

Photo Wall

View life-size highlights from our photo collection of more than 19,600 local photographs. Click images on the interactive kiosk to learn more about the Jackson Hole personalities and events depicted in the images.

aftifact Wall

Get curious about Jackson Hole history by exploring everyday and unique objects featured from our Collection of more than 7,200 artifacts. Use the kiosk to explore who owned the items and how they were used.

shane saddle & tack cabin

This historic log building was one of several structures built in the early 1950s for the set of Shane, a classic Western filmed in Jackson Hole. Walk from the Main Gallery to inside the cabin and explore history of Hollywood in the valley.

Cissy Patterson Gallery

This upstairs Gallery features community-curated and regional exhibits on a wide variety of topics related to Jackson Hole history. Exhibits change frequently. Stay updated through our calendar and email newsletter.

Museum Store

Visit the Jackson Hole History Museum Store for a wide selection of books and unique gifts related to Western and Jackson Hole history. Every purchase helps support the nonprofit History Jackson Hole. The Museum Store is open during regular Museum hours.

Visitor FAQs

The closest parking lot is the Deloney Lot at 155 N. King Street and just behind the museum. Another option is the Ranch Home Parking Lot at 250 N. Cache Street. Free street parking is also available near the museum.

No food and drinks are allowed in the exhibit galleries. Please enjoy your food and drink outdoors on our Rooftop Deck, Patio, or Boardwalk Plaza.

We offer free, lockable lockers to store backpacks and larger valuables while you visit the Museum.

We welcome kids and families! Kids will find hands-on drawers with touchable objects in the Main Gallery, pop-up family activities in the Classroom, and a kids’ section in our Museum Store.
