10th mountain division
Thursday, February 26, 6-7p | doors open 5:30p | Free
Be captivated by the “unknowns” Lance R. Blyth learned while researching and writing his book “Ski, Climb, Fight: The 10th Mountain Division and the Rise of Mountain Warfare.”
Did you know that the Jackson Hole area almost became the site of the US Army’s mountain training center during World War 2? Did you know that a unit called 10th Mountain Division was never at Camp Hale, Colorado? Did you know that mountain training continued after the war to the present day? These tales, and more, will be told!
Lance is the command historian of North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and US Northern Command and an adjunct professor of history at the US Air Force Academy. A backcountry skier with a history problem his research and writing focus on mountain warfare, particularly its connections with civilian skiing and mountaineering. He lives in Colorado Springs, Colorado, but can often be found at or near tree line.
The program is free and open to the public. Early arrival suggested; limited seating. Beverages, including NA, are available for a donation.
