Uncovering Hidden Narratives in Historic Photographs with Martha A. Sandweiss

Lunch ‘n Learn: Uncovering Hidden Narratives in Historic Photographs

Friday, Sept 26, 12-1

All too often, people turn to old photographs to illustrate what they’ve already learned from literary sources. But how can we think more historically about photographs as primary sources in and of themselves? Is a picture really worth a thousand words? What can photographs teach us? And what are the limits of what we can learn from them?

Join historian and author Martha A. Sandweiss for a hands-on conversation about some of the photographs in the collection of the Jackson Hole History Museum and a discussion of how to think with photographs. Feel free to bring to bring an old photograph from your own collection: the older and more mysterious the better!

Free for History Museum Members, Donors & Volunteers. Please bring a lunch, if you like. The History Museum will provide lemonade and cookies.
