Jackson’s history: It’s a scream

Back before law was laid upon the valley, Jackson was a holdout for plenty of outlaws.

They gambled, drank and oftentimes enjoyed the company of women. Sometimes that last pleasure landed men at the wrong end of a six-shooter.

One story goes that a local found his woman messing around with a member of Butch Cassidy’s Wild Bunch. After confronting the bandit, the would-be hero found he had upset the wrong man and ended up stumbling out of a Town Square hotel with a bullet in his back.

Although the man was killed, a shadowy figure can still sometimes be seen late a night falling into the middle of Broadway and quickly disappearing.

At least that’s how the story goes.

Jackson Hole Ghost Tours is trying to find someone who can tell it better.
