Jackson, WY – The Jackson Hole Historical Society and Museum (JHHSM) announces the selection of a collaborative design team to bring a new museum campus to the historic Van Vleck block.
HGA, a national interdisciplinary design firm, heads up the design team in partnership with local architecture firm Prospect Studio and exhibit designer Gallagher & Associates.
The team rose to the top of 24 applicants after an intensive three-month selection process that included a public Request for Qualifications and a Request for Proposals, followed by virtual interviews. The selection committee was comprised of JHHSM board members, staff, project advisors, and Owner’s Representative, Jason Berning with BPM Project Management.
Executive Director, Morgan Jaouen, says, “We are confident this team will bring incredible creativity and professionalism to help us capture the spirit of Jackson Hole’s past, present, and future. Together, we are committed to the JHHSM vision of a new community-driven museum.”
At HGA, Joan Soranno, along with John Cook and Roxanne Nelson, bring nationally recognized museum expertise, excellence in sustainable design, and an integrated streamlined team. A dedicated group within their larger firm, this specialized team provides a collaborative, small studio design approach with the support of their large firm infrastructure.
Recent notable projects include the Winona County History Museum, the Walker Art Center, the American Swedish Institute and Nelson Cultural Center, and Marlboro Music campus.
Soranno writes, “We are inspired by the authentic, tenacious, and creative people of Jackson Hole and are honored to work alongside JHHSM to craft a dynamic museum for the Jackson Hole community.”
HGA will partner with Jackson-based firm Prospect Studio. John Carney, Matt Thackery, and Danny Wicke will contribute their extensive local commercial and community-based design experience to the project. John Carney writes, “We at Prospect Studio are excited to be part of the HGA team that will get to provide a home worthy of this important institution.”
Gallagher & Associates
Gallagher & Associates (G&A) will complete the team with a focus on visitor experience and exhibit design. Led by Patrick Gallagher, Jaime Rains, and Kristin Ring, G&A is a premier Exhibit Design firm with recent notable work at the Buffalo Bill Center for the West, The Kansas City Museum, and the National World War II Museum in New Orleans. For JHHSM, G&A will facilitate a community-driven process to incorporate multiple perspectives into exciting programming and interpretive opportunities in the new space.
Patrick Gallager says, “G&A is here to support the JHHSM’s vision of creating a gathering place that elevates voices of the past and present, stimulates conversation around the stories, traditions, culture, and history of Jackson Hole and the surrounding region.”
Exhibit design emphasis will be placed on weaving historic and contemporary narratives together; creating personal, relatable experiences; highlighting the JHHSM museum collection; and designing for future rotations to continuously refresh the stories.
Planning and design of the new museum will take place over the next 18 months. To kick-off the project, the JHHSM invites the community to complete the following quick survey to further include community priorities, perspectives, and insights as the project develops.
The survey has now ended.
