Event Details

Explore the story of the Wyoming landscape, wildlife, and people through women’s words and images with an Opening Reception for two exhibits – Mountains to Manuscripts: Women’s Writing in Wyoming 1900-1950 and Wyoming Women.

Mountains to Manuscripts curator Christy Smirl and artist Katy Ann Fox will both be on hand to answer questions and talk about this original exhibit featuring notable women writers from early 20th century Wyoming. The women’s lives are illustrated through books, text, photographs, objects, and oil paintings by Fox.

A complementary exhibit Wyoming Women from the University of Wyoming’s American Heritage Center will also show 30 framed, historical photos of Wyoming women in leadership roles in the outdoors and their communities. The women were caught on camera pursuing activities ranging from horseback riding and gardening to participating in politics and academic studies.

Local musicians Sally McCullough and Jenny Landgraf will perform a mix of original and traditional American folk songs. Small bites and drinks will offered. The event is free and takes place at the Jackson Hole Historical Society and Museum at 225 N. Cache Street. Both exhibits will be on display through April 4, 2020.

Many thanks for Mountains to Manuscripts exhibit support from 4JH Lodging Tax Funding, Foxtail Books & Library Services, and Soroptimist of Jackson Hole.
