Doc MacLeod Program Honors Jack Huyler

Join the Jackson Hole Historical Society and Museum for a memorable evening and experience some old-fashioned fun in a beautiful setting. This year the storytelling, music, potluck, and book signing event is slated for 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 26 at Jack Huyler’s Rocking H Ranch, near Wilson and the Teton Village Road. The program is free and open to the public.

There will be a few stories about Don “Doc” MacLeod, as is fitting. But this year the focus will be on Doc’s friend, Jack Huyler, who along with the Jackson Hole Historical Society and Museum is hosting the evening. Jack, age 92, is a longtime resident known for his storytelling. Excerpts will be read from his new book “Every Full Moon in August” which will likely trigger other stories about Jack and Jackson Hole’s early history from the audience. Jack will sign his book that includes more than 140 stories recorded during annual August campfires that he and his wife Margaret held for nearly twenty years. The book includes historic photographs from the Jackson Hole Historical Society and Museum collection.

Local musicians Kenny Hadden and John Merritt provide entertainment before and during the program. There will be a campfire with logs to sit on for an authentic experience or bring your own lawn chair. Please bring a dish to share and table service. Everyone welcome!

This annual summer event began about 1976, and in 1983 was renamed to honor Doc MacLeod. Initially, a barbecue was held in his honor, and more recently, the event has evolved as a potluck dinner program.
