When will the History Museum Campus open?
Thanks to our hard working construction crews and partners, we’re on schedule for opening in early Summer 2024!
What will the new History Museum Campus be like?
The History Museum Campus is specifically designed to showcase and preserve Jackson Hole history and located on the historic Van Vleck Block adjacent to protected Greenspace. The Museum will include a main gallery, secondary gallery for community-curated exhibitions, Marion W. Buchenroth Classroom, two historic cabins (the Karns and Shane structures), small catering area, and outdoor terrace. Inspired by Jackson Hole architectural history, the design meets the Town’s Western Character and Conservation Guidelines, as well as the Land Trust’s Conservation guidelines.
What will the project cost?
The approximate cost of the project is $17 million. So far, we’ve raised more than $15 million from SPET monies, grants, and generous early-stage donors. See a general timeline of the project on our project news page. We currently need about $1.2 million to reach our final goal and completely fund the History Museum Campus for the community.
How will this benefit the Jackson Hole community?
The History Museum will be a jumping off point located in the heart of downtown for old-time locals and those new to the valley to explore Jackson Hole’s unique history. Every space of the new History Museum will provoke curiosity and learning.
New exhibit designs and interpretive text from local experts will showcase the collection’s diverse and unexpected stories in two galleries. By using improved archive storage and study spaces, the new Museum will also increase visibility and accessibility to our collection of more than 50,000 historical objects, photographs, records and histories.
At the same time, the Museum will bring people of all ages together with community events and gatherings in the galleries, lobby, and outdoor terrace for fun, connection, and learning. Youth will engage in hands-on education during field trips to the Museum, after-school explorations, and summer camps in a variety of spaces including the Marion W. Buchenroth Classroom and historic cabins.
