“See you down the trail . . .”

2005.0052.134Our dear friend Jack Huyler died on January 2, 2014 at his home in Ojai, California, at the age of 93. We knew him as a wonderful storyteller, lover of history, and loyal supporter of the Jackson Hole Historical Society and Museum. He had a real gift for bringing people together. Jack hosted the Doc MacLeod Campfire Tales at his Rocking H Ranch for years in honor of his friend Dr. Don MacLeod. He will be missed by all of us.

How appropriate that the last Doc MacLeod Campfire Tales on July 26, 2012 was held in honor of Jack and the release of his new book Every Full Moon in August — Campfire Tales of Old Jackson Hole. Many local residents remember Jack and Margaret Huyler’s ‘First Full Moon in August’ storytelling campfires. This book is based on these storytelling sessions which were recorded, and the recordings were transcribed after several years of painstaking efforts.
