Grand Re-opening of Original Museum

The Jackson Hole Historical Society and Museum celebrated its Grand Re-Opening of our original museum and its 55th Anniversary on Friday, August 2nd from 5:00 -7:00 pm at the corner of Glenwood and Deloney. Remarks were made by Board Member Laurent Roux and Executive Director Dr. Sharon Kahin before Mayor Mark Barron cut the ribbon. Attendees to the open house enjoyed the opening exhibit Indians of the Greater Yellowstone, cake and champagne. The keynote address was given by Dr. George Frison, who directed excavations at the Jackson Lake archaeological site, at the museum gallery at 225 N. Cache St.

Indians of the Greater Yellowstone features highlights from W.C. “Slim” Lawrence’s outstanding collection of regional archaeological artifacts as well as exhibits focusing on the Mountain Shoshone and Crow Indians’ interaction with the natural environment.

This Grand Re-Opening and 55th Anniversary Celebration honors our founder Slim Lawrence, and was held in lieu of the traditional barbecue this year.
