Linn Ranch Community Archaeology Day:

To register, click here.

Archaeologists Rebecca Sgouros and Matt Stirn from the Jackson Hole Historical Society and Museum have been excavating a 10,000 year old prehistoric campsite on the Linn Ranch since 2014. Artifacts found by the Linn family and by the excavations suggest that this site had been occupied seasonally over the last 10,000 years.

Participate in an active archaeological excavation and help us to uncover the rich history of the area. This program is available to ages 10 and above (children under 15 must be accompanied by an adult). The site is small and can only accommodate 15 participants. While being an archaeologists means you discover amazing things, it can also be hard work. Be prepared to be outside in the summer sun, getting dirty, and participating in a variety of different tasks, so bring an enthusiastic and curious spirit!

Thanks to the entire Linn Family for their generosity in sharing their ranch and this amazing archaeological site with the community. If it was not for their interest in cultural preservation and desire to study their site slowly and scientifically, this unique opportunity would not exist. The artifacts from this site are the property of the Linn Family and are never sold. The artifacts remain on the ranch so that they can be preserved and used to teach students and visitors about the area’s rich cultural history.

$50/person, $25/student. Lunch and refreshments included.
